Chikungunya Virus Antibodies

Chikungunya virus antibodies are tested against our mammalian expressed recombinant antigens, as well as against whole virus. The range includes antibodies specific for E2 envelope protein and capsid protein. The E2 Envelope specific chikungunya virus antibodies have been shown to have neutralising activity in PRNT assays. Further additions to this range are currently in development.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) belongs to the genus Alphavirus, a member of the Togaviridae family of viruses. Chikungunya fever is a mosquito-borne disease that was first identified in Tanzania in 1953. Since 2004 there have been extensive outbreaks in Africa and Asia. In 2013 the first cases were identified in the Caribbean, and by September 2014 more than 650,000 cases had been reported in the Americas. Chikungunya fever usually starts 2–4 days after chikungunya virus infection. Patients present with clinical symptoms that include high fever, rash, headache, vomiting, myalgia, and severe joint pain (CDC).

CHIKV is transmitted by the same mosquitos that transmit Dengue Virus and Zika Virus, and the clinical symptoms of infection are also similar. Differential diagnosis is therefore an important consideration in areas where other flaviviruses such as Dengue and Zika co-circulate.

The Native Antigen Company also supply highly purified viral antigens to support researchers working with CHIKV including CHIKV Envelope proteins and CHIKV Virus-like particles.
