BACKGROUND

Influenza A viruses are negative-sense, single-stranded, segmented RNA viruses classified under the genus Alphainfluenzavirus in the family Orthomyxoviridae (Baldo et al., 2016). They are divided into subtypes based on two surface glycoproteins, haemagglutinin (H1–H18) and neuraminidase (N1–N11) (CDC, 2025; WHO, 2010). In humans, seasonal influenza A viruses predominantly belong to the H1N1 and H3N2 subtypes (CDC, 2025; WHO, 2025).

Seasonal influenza causes substantial global morbidity and mortality, with the World Health Organization estimating around 1 billion infections, 3–5 million severe cases and 290,000–650,000 influenza‑related respiratory deaths each year worldwide. These burdens fall disproportionately on high‑risk groups, including young children, older adults, pregnant women and individuals with chronic underlying conditions. Vaccination remains the primary public‑health intervention to reduce the impact of influenza, supported by WHO‑coordinated global surveillance and strain selection (WHO, 2025).

At The Native Antigen Company, we are committed to advancing vaccine research and development, supporting work on these clinically important influenza A subtypes. We proudly offer Haemagglutinin (HA) and Neuraminidase (NA) antigens for WHO‑recommended egg‑based and recombinant vaccine strains for seasonal influenza, available in bulk quantities for applications including immunoassay development and use as immunogens.
