BACKGROUND

Recombinant Human Anti-Human Thyroglobulin IgG Antibody is a high-specificity research reagent used to detect human thyroglobulin, a thyroid follicular glycoprotein that plays a central role in thyroid hormone synthesis and serves as an important marker of thyroid tissue biology (Spencer et al., 2011; Baloch and LiVolsi, 2004). Because thyroglobulin is closely associated with thyroid-derived tissue and differentiated thyroid carcinoma, anti-thyroglobulin antibodies are commonly used in immunohistochemistry and other validated assay formats that require reliable target recognition (Baloch and LiVolsi, 2004; Hedley et al., 2004).

In diagnostic and translational settings, anti-human thyroglobulin antibodies help confirm thyroid origin in tissue studies and support the evaluation of differentiated thyroid carcinoma, including papillary and follicular subtypes, where thyroglobulin expression is often retained (Baloch and LiVolsi, 2004; Hedley et al., 2004). They are also relevant in autoimmune thyroid disease, because anti-thyroglobulin autoantibodies are associated with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease, and can interfere with serum thyroglobulin measurement during thyroid cancer follow-up; therefore, paired testing for thyroglobulin and thyroglobulin autoantibodies is clinically important (Spencer et al., 2011; Tozzoli et al., 2002).
