BACKGROUND

Pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (proGRP) is the precursor of gastrin-releasing peptide and is an established circulating biomarker for small cell lung cancer (SCLC) (Kimura et al., 2004; Stieber et al., 2017). Because proGRP is more stable than the mature peptide, it is better suited for routine immunoassay measurement and for use in diagnosis and treatment monitoring of SCLC, where it helps distinguish SCLC from many non-small cell lung cancers and benign conditions (Kimura et al., 2004; Stieber et al., 2017).

Recombinant proGRP is an important reagent for assay development and antibody characterization because it provides a defined antigen that matches the clinical target of measurement (Yoshimura et al., 2009; Iizuka et al., 2014). Studies of recombinant proGRP and related assay systems have shown that standardized antigen–antibody reagents improve analytical performance, stability, and inter-assay comparability, which are essential for reliable clinical testing (Yoshimura et al., 2009; Iizuka et al., 2014).
